Sophie Voon Bridal: gowns so beautiful they could sway a marriage-shy old spinster

There’s a lot to love about Sophie Voon Bridal, purveyor of delectable dresses for your wedding day and other extra special occasions.

The dresses really are the stuff of dreams: exquisitely cut confections with simple silhouettes in luxe fabrics …

Divine. And no meringues in sight.

Kudos, too, for choosing to photograph the collection on two gorgeous women, one curvier than the other. It’s refreshing to see a designer showing that beautiful bespoke fashion can be for everybody.

The modern vintage vibe of the frocks carries through to the website, which is every bit as delectable as the dresses.

Those gorgeous illustrations with rioting flowers and butterflies floating off the page are from the pen of Wellington designer Mary Adams. She crafted the wallpaper for the boutique as well.

I have dreams about this Mary Adams wallpaper. Click on the pic to go to the designer’s website and check out her other work

Wouldn’t you have the sweetest dreams if this wallpaper was in your boudoir?

Mary’s also responsible for the website of another of my favourite homegrown businesses: the Amazing Travelling Photobooth.

Dion and his crew are all about combining “old world charm with a high-tech heart” to record your special day for posterity.

Weddings, birthday parties, corporate events… no matter what makes your day special, photographic keepsakes from the Amazing Travelling Photobooth will make sure you and your guests remember it.

Trust me. They don’t call it the amazing memory making machine for nothing. Even people who hate having their pictures taken will succumb to the lure of the booth.

And, right now they’ve got a sweet sweet deal for brides to be: Book a booth for your wedding and make your deposit by 31 July and go into a draw to win a Sophie Voon Bridal dress.

Now wouldn’t that be lovely?

Waving, not drowning

What a turnaround.

Last year I was treading water as fast as I could and still sinking.

This December couldn’t be more different.

I am bouyed, inspired, back in a city I love, surrounded by people I love, with a hugely fulfilling job I adore.

I’ve got my mojo back. And I am truly thankful.

Also, just quietly, I’m really bloody grateful that I don’t have to wear a uniform any more. A uniform! Can you imagine? No wonder the life was sucked out of me.

the week that was: Dressember 13 through to Dressember 22
(yes, more than a week, but… think of it as a Christmas bonus – my gift to you)

This week I have been mainly… wearing frocks.

And… eating indulgent morning teas, drinking lots and lots of fizzy wine, partying, and accepting thoughtful gifts and magnificent floral tributes. Plus Jo and I found time to throw a big rainy day barbecue as well.

Life is sweet.

Frock on!

Blue Monday

You may well think I wore a navy frock today just so I could post a New Order video…

I couldn’t possibly comment.

But it is Monday, I did wear a blue dress (with pockets. I ♥ pockets), and I got given a bunch of blue flowers.

I also ♥ hydrangeas, and am blessing my great good fortune in having been assigned to such a discerning Kringler.

Especially after hearing the story about the person who got nothing all week, and then got a TIN OF FISH.

Hydrangeas, a hundred times better. For real.
Thank you, secret Kringle-person, you rock my world 🙂

How about you, lovelies, what are you planning to bestow upon your workmates in the seasonal secret Santa rounds?

I can’t tell you mine, obviously, in case my giftee is stalking me online, but I’d love to hear what you’re planning – or what loot you’ve collected so far.

Also… you didn’t think I’d forgotten, eh?

You’ll have to watch it on YouTube, mind…

Weekend catch-up

Another day, another party…

I’ve been existing upon canapes for a fortnight now, but the weekend provided some quality downtime as well.

In between the parties there was a visit to the Hutt riverside market, some gardening, a little reading, a swim in the utterly fantabulous McKenzie Pool, LOTS of sparkling (alcoholic gingerbeer! oh my word. divine. you must buy some, now).

And to top it all off, there was a glittering Vivienne Westwood number. Worn while doing the housework because, frankly, why the hell not?

I feel pretty…

… skanky.

This frock was such a success yesterday, I decided to launder it when I got home and wear it again today.

It was still working its magic and I was still feeling sparkly and pretty until I ran into a dude I’d met at a Christmas party last night.

And now, now I realise I look like a dirty stopout.

Ah well, I’m wearing glittery nailpolish and a tulle brooch. I can deal with it.
